In the development of the seats for the A-Class Mercedes-Benz has used a computer-supported comfort simulation for the first time in the compact segment. This allows – even before the first real seat is available – reliable predictions about the future comfort impression of the seats to be created using only CAD data. At the same time, comfort equipment from higher vehicle segments are used: Upon request, next to the seat heater, seat climate control and the multicontour seat package are available for the front seats for the first time in this model series. In the seat climate control, there is a radial fan in both the seat cushion and backrest. The air drawn in via the perforated cover flows through the seat structure and is discharged below and behind. This allows a pleasant air flow to surround the passengers. Even in a highly heated vehicle interior the seat climate control quickly cools the seat surfaces down, by drawing in cooler ambient air. The level of ventilation can be set in three levels.
In the Multicontour Seat Package, an electrically powered pneumatic pump is used to individually adjust the seat side bolsters and the lumbar support. A massage effect in the lumbar region is ensured by air chambers in this area, that, when activated, are inflated and deflated either by pulsating or in waves. In total, the new A-Class has three different front seats: alongside the base model, there is the comfort seat with up to 20 adjustments as well as the sporty integral seat that can be ordered in combination with equipment lines.
